Netflix has stated they will not use anything without DRM.
Although there is a Linux alternative to Silverlight called Moonlight, it does not have any DRM built in and it is unlikely Moonlight will implement a DRM option. This is because they use Microsoft Silverlight plugin with DRM.
Until recently there was no simple solution to watching streaming movies via Netflix (Watch Instantly) in Linux for any Linux distros besides Android based computers. See the section below "Running with Wine". However, running Netflix is entirely possible in Ubuntu Linux 12.04 and later releases (and most likely any other modern distribution). The instructions below are legacy instructions for running Silverlight on Linux via Wine.
The Silverlight plugin is still in beta so it looks like you found something wrong with it.
I can't help you with that one unfortunately since there's no JavaScript or XML code I can write to blue-screen your system (barring a browser bug of course). I tried running your example and it bluescreened my computer :(
If you don't have it you should see an icon appear that you can click on to download it. Yep.you'll definitely need the Silverlight plugin. i had the same problem but when i downloaded the plugin all the problems were gone )
The problem is that you need to install the silverline plugin. But, let me know if you're able to get it to work at home since I'm interested in getting it resolved for you. Since the server you're hitting calls Amazon (rather than the client browser) I don't think location should be a problem.
Isn't that how it always works though? :-) I'm trying hard to get that error on different machines and browsers but having no luck unfortunately (XP and Vista). co.uk site? I know sometimes there are regional restrictions on various sites. Not sure if this is in any way important but I am in the UK - could there be a problem with me accessing rather than the.
